6 destinations in Spain for a different summer

Beach, mountain, coast, inland... It’s difficult to choose just six destinations considering all the wonders we can fortunately enjoy in Spain. Sometimes we become obsessed with visiting places thousands of kilometers away, but the truth is that we don’t need to go far to discover places that will surely turn your vacation into an unforgettable journey. In addition to coastal destinations with magnificent beaches to relax by the sound of the waves on the shore, we also bring you some of the alternatives and destinations that have gained prominence during this “new normal.” Always, of course, respecting health measures to enjoy a safe summer.

Lekeitio
Perhaps the name doesn’t ring a bell, but this beautiful fishing village located on the shores of the Bay of Biscay, halfway between Bilbao and San Sebastián, has an incredible cultural and artistic heritage. It is a perfect place for nature and sports lovers, as it offers several routes to walk or cycle, in addition to nautical activities like kayaking and paddle surfing. But it’s also ideal for family travel, thanks to the tranquility of the village and its beach, where you can walk to the island of San Nicolás-Garraitz when the tide is low. Aside from the numerous buildings and palaces, you’ll also get to know some very interesting legends formed in this town, like the story of the ‘bent man’... Aren’t you curious?

Asturias (Gijón/Oviedo)
We’re not picking between Gijón and Oviedo... We won’t take sides, because neither city will disappoint you. Both of Asturias' main cities offer a great cultural offer and beautiful corners to visit, but the options don't end there. If you choose to go beyond the big cities, you'll be amazed by the green 'praos' and Asturian mountains, offering a tranquility hard to find elsewhere. Do you fancy the beach? Go ahead. Prefer a mountain stroll? Well, that too. In Asturias, you have plenty of choices, and another great thing is that wherever you go, your stomach will be very satisfied. Whether in a small fishing village or a mountain village, exploring the Principality is a perfect plan for these days.

Torla-Ordesa
This town in Huesca is the gateway to the Ordesa and Monte Perdido Natural Park. The name says it all... A perfect place to escape and enjoy hiking routes with very pleasant summer temperatures. But if you’re into adventure, the Sobrabe region also offers more adventurous activities like canyoning, rafting, via ferrata, and kayaking. In addition, this northern Huesca area located in the glacial valley of the Ara River has an important historical legacy tied to its frontier condition. For example, the name “Torla” is thought to derive from “Tower,” referring to the defensive tower of an ancient fortress, as in the 15th century, the valley was an important defensive stronghold against French incursions. Want to discover more? What better than visiting this scenic place!

Santa Cruz de Tenerife
Yes, Tenerife is one of the world’s most famous destinations. Precisely for that reason, this iconic island will give you a different summer, guaranteeing great weather and a pace of life that will help you disconnect and leave stress behind. Santa Cruz de Tenerife, the island’s capital since 1883, has notable places and monuments, such as the Mercado Nuestra Señora de África, Plaza de España (where the Castillo de San Cristóbal once stood, and where some remains can still be found beneath the square), and the Church of the Conception. However, we also recommend enjoying a pleasant stroll and savoring Canary Island gastronomy at one of the many terraces in the city.

Las Palmas de Gran Canaria
Something similar happens with the capital of Gran Canaria. The sun and paradisiacal beaches come to mind, and yes, you must swim at Playa de las Canteras, especially if you're a fan of snorkeling or enjoy kayaking. But Las Palmas de Gran Canaria offers much more to see, do, or eat. Did you know that the first Japanese restaurant in Spain opened in the city in 1967? You should also visit the Mercado de Vegueta food stalls, admire the beauty of the Cathedral, or visit Casa de Colón... or even the mummies of the ancient island's natives at the Museo Canario! Don’t forget to stroll through the Martian landscape of El Confital, a protected natural area with the best views of Las Canteras Bay.

Santander
We finish back up north. Here, you’ll find wonderful beaches, and if you feel like changing the air, the mountains are also just a stone’s throw away. It’s an elegant city with a stately atmosphere, where the carefully constructed buildings blend perfectly with the vibrant color of its spectacular bay. You can’t leave Santander without seeing the Palacio de la Magdalena and strolling along Playa del Sardinero… but also without enjoying a cold beer at the Faro de Cabo Mayor, with breathtaking views, one of the best plans offered by the Cantabrian capital. In Santander, there are countless options, so we’ll let you discover the rest firsthand.

These six destinations are just a small sample of the wide variety of tourist possibilities we have in Spain. From Silken Hotels, we recommend that you enjoy, explore, and travel to any corner of our geography, because wherever you go – always with caution and respect for sanitary measures – you’re sure to have a great time. Choose #DestinoEspaña, and you’ll be sure to hit the mark!
