Tips for traveling with a baby

Traveling with a baby is a big challenge for all parents: from first‑timers to the most experienced. Babies face a new and completely different situation and this can scare them, causing crying and tantrums. First of all, we must keep in mind that a trip with a baby will require a lot of patience on our part, so it’s advisable to make the trip with time and as calm as possible and of course, not to transmit our own nervousness to the baby.

Tips for taking a trip with a baby

All the fun for the baby
Something fundamental is to have toys or other light objects that can help us keep them entertained. Bringing their favorite stuffed animal or some toy they really like will allow us to distract them if they get nervous.

Be prepared for the unexpected: if it can happen, it will
It’s important to be prepared for any unforeseen event that may arise, such as traffic jams, flight delays, etc. For these cases, we recommend bringing extra food, plenty of entertainment, any medicine they might need during the trip, and of course all the diapers needed and more! Also make sure the place you are traveling to has facilities to meet the needs of the whole family. In our establishments we will make it easy for you.

Pay attention to the details
When we travel with a baby it’s very important to pay attention to every little detail and be very cautious: Do we have water? Tissues? Pacifier? Food? Bottle? We also need to be attentive to know when they need our attention.

Don’t forget the first‑aid kit
An essential on any trip, and especially when traveling with babies and children, is to have a first‑aid kit on hand. Having the basic items for any emergency can help with unexpected situations that may arise during the trip.

Recommendations if traveling by car with a baby

If we are going to travel by car, there are some things we must not forget:

Remember that it is important to rest every so often. You need to rest and the baby does too. Also, by stopping you can give them more attention and take better care of them.
Use the recommended seats for babies. Also remember to put it in the rear‑facing direction so they are more protected in case of an accident.
Accompany them. The baby should be accompanied in the back. Otherwise, they will feel alone and we won’t be able to give them the attention they need.
Stick to their routine. If the baby takes a long nap, that can be a good time to travel. That way they’ll spend most of the journey sleeping.
Watch the temperature. Cars can heat up a lot, so it’s a good idea to monitor the temperature so the baby is always comfortable.
Recommendations if traveling by plane with a baby

If you are traveling by plane with a baby, there are other issues we must take into account so that the journey is as relaxed and pleasant as possible.

If they are long trips, we recommend that you make them at night. That way the baby will sleep most of the time.
Feed them during takeoff and landing. A good trick is to give them the bottle or breastfeed during takeoff and landing, since this is when they can become more nervous and it can also help prevent pressure in the ears.
Ask for a bassinet if the trip will be long. Many airlines provide them for long journeys and they will help the baby feel comfortable.
Recommendations if traveling by train with a baby

Traveling by train has many advantages. You don’t have to be at the station as early as at the airport, there are no traffic jams, and trains are usually very punctual for both departure and arrival.

It’s important to bring wet wipes in case you need to change the baby, since many train bathrooms are not well equipped for that.
We can also use the ATENDO service. They will help us with the little ones and you only need to request it when purchasing the ticket.

Finally, above all remember that it is important not to be nervous. The best thing is to feel relaxed and travel without thinking of arrival time. A baby needs all our love and their smile will always be worth it.
