The 61st Congress of the Spanish Society of Geriatrics and Gerontology and the 26th Congress of the Aragonese Society of Geriatrics and Gerontology will be held in Zaragoza from Wednesday June 12 to Friday June 14, 2019. In this article, we tell you where to sleep and everything you need to know.
Geriatrics, a profession of the future
Geriatrics will be one of the medical specialties with the highest labor demand in the future, according to a study conducted by Modis (Adecco Group). Therefore, under the motto “getting older, aging positively,” the organizers of SEGG 2019 emphasize the importance of “contributing to spreading a positive perception of aging at all levels.” With this motto, during the days of the congress, plenary sessions will be combined with symposia, courses, and workshops to help people “age well” and/or “live with illness” in the best possible way. Updates and advances in various areas of the sector will also be shared.
How to get there
The SEGG and SAGG 2019 meetings will take place at the Zaragoza Congress Palace, a venue on the banks of the Ebro River and very well connected both with the city center (bus 34 from Plaza España) and with Zaragoza Delicias train station (bus Ci1).

What you can see in Zaragoza during the Congress
Zaragoza is the fifth largest city in Spain by population and an exciting autonomous capital. Thanks to its excellent location in the heart of the city, from our Hotel Silken Reino de Aragón you can visit most of the tourist points of interest on a comfortable walk:
- The Cathedral-Basilica of El Pilar: it is Zaragoza’s quintessential postcard and one of the most important Baroque temples in all of Spain. Undoubtedly, a must-visit.
- The Stone Bridge and the Ebro River: just behind El Pilar, you will find the Ebro River with the Stone Bridge (one of many in the city). Another photo you cannot miss on your trip.
- Alfonso I Street: it is the main street of the old town, a pedestrian street full of shops.
- El Tubo: it is the tapas area. A network of streets where you will not lack food or drink.
- The Roman Theater: built in the first half of the 1st century AD, it is the Roman Theater of Caesar Augusta (the name by which Zaragoza is known today). You will find it on San Jorge street, between San Andrés and San Lorenzo.
- The Goya Museum: the famous painter was born in Zaragoza and, therefore, his city pays tribute to him by displaying some of his engravings and paintings.
- Plaza de los Sitios: one of the most beautiful green areas in the center along with some of the trendiest restaurants and cafés.
So far, you will have been able to visit all these points within a radius of no more than 20 minutes on foot. For the last recommendation, we have reserved a somewhat more distant site but one that is also well worth visiting:
- The Aljafería: it is an 11th-century fortified palace and the only major preserved building of the Taifa Islamic architecture. In this regard, the Mudéjar remains preserved inside were declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1986.
From the Hotel Silken Reino de Aragón in Zaragoza, we hope you enjoy both the SEGG and SAGG 2019 Congress and your stay with us as well as everything our city has to offer you.
