Mobile World Congress 2018: dates, accommodation, and tickets

Discover in the following article the news about the new edition of the Mobile World Congress 2019. Below is the information from the 2018 edition: There are many mobile phone and telecommunications events, but none like the Mobile World Congress (MWC). The most important annual event in the sector, which last year broke records with 108,000 attendees from 208 countries. And it's no surprise. Because the MWC is much more than smartphones. Automotive, mobility, finance, health, 5G, or the Internet of Things are just some of the other business areas that find a place at the Congress. This 2018, with the slogan “Creating a Better Future,” the organizers want to show us that innovations can make life much easier. What will they be? We review everything we know so far about the Mobile World Congress 2018, which will be held at the Fira GSM: dates, accommodation, news, where to get tickets, and much more.

Mobile World Congress 2018 dates

The Mobile World Congress 2018 will take place in Barcelona from Monday, February 26 to Thursday, March 1. However, as is now customary, it is likely that major companies will take advantage of the calm on Sunday, February 25 to present their latest creations. This is known as the pre-mobile day. All in all, the perfect travel plan is to enjoy the weekend before the Congress relaxing in the best hotels in Barcelona with Hoteles Silken and, at the same time, not miss any exclusives.

How to get there from our hotels:

As every year, the MWC will be held at the Gran Vía fairgrounds from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. It is well connected by public transport with metro line L9, bus H2, and line 8 of the Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat (the last two options are the best to travel from Plaza España, the site of some parallel activities of the event). To get there from our hotels: Hotel Silken Ramblas Barcelona: start with metro line 1 at Plaza de Cataluña and transfer at Torrassa to take the L9 South metro. You can get off at “Fira” or “Europa Fira.” It will take about 35 minutes. Hotel Silken Concordia: you can walk to Plaza España and from there choose the H2 bus or line 8 of the Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat. It will take just under 30 minutes. Hotel Silken Sant Gervasi: take bus H6 to Zona Universitaria and from there the L9 South metro. You can get off at “Fira” or “Europa Fira.” It will take about 45 minutes. You can also take the trains at Putxet, transfer at Provença (Diagonal metro L5), and continue to Collblanc where you can catch metro line L9. The time is roughly the same.

The most anticipated news at the Mobile World Congress

The new terminals Huawei P11, the LG G7, or the Samsung Galaxy S9 are some of the innovations that could be presented at the Mobile World Congress 2018, but their manufacturers have not wanted to confirm or deny anything to date. What is certain is that with multinationals such as Facebook, Google, Android, Samsung, or Vodafone among the 2,300 companies participating as exhibitors at the fair, there will be no shortage of headlines. Smartphones, augmented and virtual reality, drones, telecommunications are a preview of more than 4 days of chained and often overlapping activities. So for those who get lost with so many programs, the MWC 2018 in Barcelona has expanded its themed tours to 8, guided visits in different areas so that attendees can get much more out of their days at the Congress (these are: 5G and NFV, a connected world, content, emerging technology, business, IoT security, mobile applications and advertising, and digital commerce).

The Mobile World Congress in Barcelona

The Mobile World Congress and Barcelona have been, to date, a very fruitful marriage that generates around 500 million euros and more than 13,200 temporary jobs each year. And despite bad rumors announcing an imminent divorce, the latest news assures that the love between the Catalan capital and the most important fair in the world of technology and telecommunications still has many years ahead.

4 Years From Now (4YFN) dates

Considered by some as the younger sibling of the Congress, the truth is that 4 Years From Now (4YFN) has become much more than just a program to foster relations between investors and entrepreneurs. The figures prove it, projecting attendance of 600 companies and up to 19,000 visitors at the venue set up in Plaza España, just over 10% of the total Congress. For 4YFN fans concerned about the dates, this event will take place from Monday, February 26 to Wednesday, February 28. The 4YFN ticket includes access for the last day of the Mobile World Congress.

Ticket prices for MWC 2018

Registration for these editions will open a little later, so the price of the Mobile World Congress 2018 tickets has not yet been revealed. However, it is expected that the price will not differ much from previous years. That is, 799 euros for the most basic pass, with access only to the exhibition area. To attend the conferences, a higher-priced ticket is required at 2,199 euros. For VIPs, Gold passes (2,699 euros) and Platinum (4,999 euros) are also available. Hotel prices: since there are many room reservations in Barcelona during these days, hotel prices tend to rise and locations fill up quickly. From the Silken Hotels website in Barcelona, we guarantee the best price, with many advantages if you book through the “Sí by Silken” program. They say a foresighted person is worth two, and during the Barcelona MWC even more so. Get ahead and book early to get the room you deserve!
