The people of Las Palmas prepare for Carnival all year long: thinking, designing, weaving, comparing, dreaming… And the spectacularity of most costumes will leave tourists in awe. Below is the day-by-day program of the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria Carnival 2020, so you don't miss any details:
Friday 7: At 8:30 PM, the opening parade will take place, followed by the official proclamation at 9:00 PM.
Saturday 8: The kids are getting ready for this day because at 7:00 PM, the children's comparsas competition will take place.
Sunday 9: At 11:00 AM, children's costume festival. At 8:00 PM, Gala of the Grand Lady.
Monday 10 to Wednesday 12: Murga competition at 8:30 PM.
Thursday 13: Adult costume competition at 9:00 PM.
Friday 14: Adult comparsas competition.
Saturday 15: At 12:00 PM, daytime carnival in Vegueta, and at 9:00 PM, the final of the murga competition.
Sunday 16: A curiosity for dog lovers: at 12:00 PM, the canine carnival. And at 7:00 PM, children's gala.
Friday 21: Queen’s Gala at 9:00 PM.
Saturday 22: One of the days with the most activities. At 12:00 PM, Family Carnival in Tiana. At 5:00 PM, Carnival in the Sun, and at 9:00 PM, Drag Queen pre-selection.
Sunday 23: At 11:00 AM, children’s murga meeting and at 5:00 PM, children’s parade.
Monday 24: Traditional Carnival at 7:00 PM and at 9:00 PM, Drag Queen Gala.
Tuesday 25: One of the most important days on the Carnival calendar in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria: Carnival Tuesday, with daytime celebrations in Santa Catalina.
Thursday 27: Integration Gala at 7:00 PM.
Friday 28: Body painting competition at 9:00 PM.
Saturday 29: Grand Parade at 6:00 PM. It is so long that it follows a 7-kilometer route.
Sunday, March 1: Burial of the Sardine at 7:00 PM, marking the end of the 2020 Carnival events in Las Palmas.
