Accommodation near to Covadonga
Just 50 kilometres from Llanes you can visit the Covadonga mountain, one of the cardinal points of Asturias. This area is surrounded by legend and history, a place of worship for devotees of the Virgin of Covadonga, known as “La Santina”, the Patron Saint of Asturias, a Royal Site visited by worshippers, tourists and mountain lovers alike.
The Basilica of Covadonga was built between 1877 and 1901. It was left without its original plans which disappeared, possibly during the Civil War. However, this monument is considered to be one of the finest examples of neo-Romanesque architecture of the late 19th century. The temple is visible from all around and, inside, there is a sense of calm and peace that undoubtedly expands into the surrounding area.
The Royal Site of Covadonga is a natural gateway to the Picos de Europa National Park. Only 12 km away, up a steep and narrow road, you reach the beautiful spots that are home to the lakes of Enol and La Ercina: The Covadonga Lakes, a haven with infinite shades of blue, green and grey.
Hotel with spa near to the Picos de Europa mountain range
At the Silken Spa La Hacienda de Don Juan hotel you will find all the comforts for a relaxing stay near the sea and the mountains.
This accommodation near the Picos de Europa mountain range is located at the gateway to the National Park that bears its name, one of the most beautiful spots that nature has to offer in the Principality of Asturias. With Llanes as a starting point, you can reach this mountain range in just 30 minutes by car.
The landscape there is overwhelmingly karst, including passes and gorges, enchanting rivers and valleys and large areas of native forest. The Picos de Europa mountain range is also home to a high density of subalpine wildlife and flora, above 1,600 metres. Beech forests and unforgettable sheepfolds can be found below this level. Small villages, scattered across the middle and high mountains, are an example of the hospitable character of the rural communities in the area.
Discover Toró Beach and the Cantabrian coast
There is an unusual density of villages along Llanes' 35 kilometres of coastline, along with statistically probable coves every thousand metres.
More than thirty beaches are the result of a sea that is tired of fighting, seeking made-to-measure lounges in docks and estuaries, as well as in the hardest and highest cliffs, forming limestone sculptures to admire, and subterranean tunnels through which to continue searching for some tranquillity. The nearby Toró Beach is an unforgettable spot, with very few traces of direct urbanisation on its coastline.
