Barcelona Marathon 2020: Route and More

One of the most popular sporting events in Spain, the Barcelona Marathon, returns in 2020 to celebrate its 42nd edition with an urban circuit through the city's most emblematic landmarks. Undoubtedly, an essential event for long-distance running enthusiasts. The annual event, organized by Zurich and the Barcelona City Council, offers a monumental route passing by key landmarks such as Casa Batlló, La Sagrada Familia, and the Olympic Port.

Dates and Times
The Barcelona Marathon will take place on March 15, 2020. This sporting event, which holds the Bronze distinction from the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF), will start at 8:30 a.m. The time limit to complete the race is 6 hours.

Registrations
Registrations are made online through the official Zurich Barcelona Marathon website. The general registration cost is €61.50 for the first 10,000 registrations. The price increases as the number of participants rises: €73 for registrations between 10,001 and 17,000, and €84 for registrations after 17,000. There is also the option to book a medal engraving service for an additional €5. This option can be requested online at the time of registration. Participants who choose this service will receive a chip connected to their bib, which will record their real-time times. Another available option during registration is the photo package for an additional €12 to receive all images of the 2020 Barcelona Marathon that feature the runner.

Barcelona Marathon 2020 Route
The 2020 edition will feature aid stations every 5 kilometers, offering water, Powerade, fruits, and fresh produce, among other things. The start and finish points of the Barcelona Marathon 2020 route will be located on Avenida de La Reina Cristina, adjacent to Plaza de España. The Barcelona Half Marathon will take place on February 16, 2020. The route will start at Passeig Pujades at 08:45 and will finish by 11:30 a.m. The race covers a distance of 21.097 kilometers. Bib number pick-up will take place on February 14 and 15 at the Palau de Congressos in Barcelona on Avenida María Cristina. It is important to remember that bib numbers will not be available on the event day, so the weekend should be planned in advance. Registrations can be made through the official eDreams Mitja Barcelona website. There are two available rates: €24.95 for participants with their own chip, and €28 for those who wish to rent a chip. The route is relatively flat and will pass by landmarks such as the Arc de Triomf, the Forum, the Mapfre Tower, and the Columbus Monument, among other points of interest.
