Marc Newson is one of the most important and influential designers of his generation. Now aged 41, he has been active in a wide range of disciplines, designed all types of objects and spaces (chairs, homeware, recording studies, interiors for private and commercial airplanes, restaurants, etc.) in Europe, North America, Asia and Australia. Australian by birth, he spent his childhood travelling around Europe and Asia before studying jewellery and sculpture in his native city, Sydney. He began experimenting with furniture design during his student days and after graduating, had the opportunity to exhibit his creations at Sydney’s Roslyn Oxley Gallery. Later, he spent some years in Tokyo. In the 1990s he set up his Paris studio, where he designed objects (lighting equipment, furniture, clocks, etc.), restaurants and even a recording studio. 1997 saw him move to London, where he created Marc Newson Ltd, a studio equipped to deal with the most ambitious industrial projects. Since then, he has created objects in glass, kitchens and bathroom accessories, furniture, decorative items and home lighting, etc. Other designs have included bicycles, vehicle prototypes, airplane seats and interiors, sets of kitchen utensils, bathrooms. His most recent work ranges from models for mobile telephones, the uniforms worn by the Australian Olympic team at the Athens Games (in collaboration with Richard Allan), shoes, collections of clothes, to luggage
