This Japanese architect is recognised throughout the world for his ability to blend eastern and western styles, and for his skilled handling of visual games and allusions to history.
Born in Oita, on the island of Kyushu, he studied at Tokyo University, where his master was Kenzo Tange, the most prominent Japanese architect of his day. Isozaki was his disciple between 1954 and 1963. He went on to set up his own studio in Tokyo. His first independent projects blended the large organic structures of state-of-the-art technology with the traditional aesthetics of Japanese constructions. In 1970 he returned to modern orthodoxy, using composition of pure forms like cubes, semi-cylindrical vaults, spheres and other geometric elements.
In his projects, Isozaki seems to immerse himself in an intuitive search for spatial meaning, turning his structures into instruments that combine reality and illusion. Isozaki has designed buildings all over the world: the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, the Fine Arts building of Brooklyn Museum and other museums in Nice and Cairo. He was also responsible for the Palau Sant Jordi, built for the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games.
Arata Isozaki offers guests a subtle and relaxing interior design on Floor 10, with clear Japanese influences. The bathroom evokes typical Japanese traditions: with the bathroom and the shower together, made of wood.
There is also a shoji, a panel reminiscent of Japanese traditional homes, with a predominance of dark tones. Arata Isozaki seems to fuse reality with fiction in this space, through the perfect combination of colours and materials, giving guests a feeling of peace and wellbeing in a space that stands out for its formal levity. Isozaki takes the customs of his culture to Floor 10 of the Silken Puerta América, with the best materials.
Guests discover a space full of oriental references, which gradually unveil themselves as one goes "living" in the room, such as when one has a bath, slides a panel or watches television.
